The Rythum, Beauty and Power that the lake possesses – 60min
I knew from the beginning this would be my happiest film. As I explained in the introduction to this series, the goal was to shoot nonstop for a few years, until I intuitively felt that chapter in my life coming to a close. Then, I’d dig through all the footage, searching for the story.
This one came easy. I’d just gotten married to Jenny, and moved into an historic apartment with our newly adopted dog, Jack. I remember it as a time of pure expression, and little concern. I wanted no conflict in the documentary – just an upbeat quest for nonsense and no-meaning. I also kept myself completely out of it, making it a portrait of a man’s life that’s never seen on camera.
The recipe box Jenny found in a thrift store, full of flashcards filled with illiterate ramblings, served as the perfect catalyst to bring our combined families and circles of friends together to create a work of art.
