FEET – 59min
Jenny, Jack and I loved the historic house we were living in. It had been subdivided into 3 separate units. We lived on the top floor, and had a staircase leading up to an open loft area. We converted the apartment into a bohemian art space. We painted every wall, and I built a tree swing in the backyard.
I can’t remember what I was looking for when I picked up an old fashioned newspaper and started thumbing through the classifieds, and listings of things for sale. Then I saw it – a small ad regarding a cabin for rent, in a mountain town I’d never heard of. I had to see it. The overwhelming desire I had defied logic; We weren’t even halfway through our lease, and things were going fine.
We arranged to view it with the owner. We drove 9 miles up a winding mountain road until we reached an isolated community called Beaver Springs Ranch. The second we saw the property and the massive Weber River storming through the front yard, within 50 feet of the porch – we fell in love. The man trusted his gut, and gave us the keys.
In that moment, I felt reborn. Freed from my old identity – the negative habits, the addictions, the too-familiar streets and bars, the bad memories, the weight of a city that had worn me down. It was a huge turning point for us (and Jack was fully onboard). A photograph of me on our first day living there captured a light in my eye, and a profound relief, that I hadn’t seen before.

As a bonus, I’m including a short animated movie titled ‘The Magic Pot’. There’s footage of it being created in the larger show, and I couldn’t find a better home for it on this website.
